Endodontics/Root Canal Treatment
Endodontics is a dental speciality that enables the dentist to perform a number of different treatments to help save a tooth from further damage. Dentists trained in endodontics are able to help patients that have suffered cracked teeth or dental trauma, but are most commonly used to perform root canal treatment.
Root canal treatment is required when a tooth is badly damaged due to decay or when it has already killed the tooth. For this the dentist will remove the ‘pulp’ of the tooth and then refill the cavity. This can help prevent any future damage to surrounding teeth, stop toothaches, abscesses and infections.
